Episode 255: Walk by Faith, Doing the Work When the Results Haven’t Shown Up Yet

There’s a version of trust that sounds right but has a condition buried inside it.

It shows up when you’re doing everything – taking the action, showing up consistently, moving forward even when it’s hard and underneath all of it, there’s a quiet expectation: this has to work out the way I’m picturing it, or something is wrong.

That’s not surrender. That’s a negotiation with the outcome.

If you’re in a season where the gap between your effort and your results feels wider than it should, this episode is going to meet you there. Not with a pep talk. Not with a formula. With an honest conversation about what it actually looks like to keep moving from a grounded place, gut over fear, faith over control, when the timeline isn’t yours to manage.

This is the episode for the entrepreneur who’s doing the work and learning to trust the rest.

Walk by Faith: Taking Action Without Being Attached to the Outcome (Even When the Results Aren’t There Yet)

You’re Doing Everything Right. So Why Isn’t It Working Yet?

You’re showing up. Taking the action. Moving forward even when it’s hard.

And underneath all of it, there’s a quiet, exhausting question: why aren’t the results here yet?

If you’re a faith-led entrepreneur in a hard season – doing the work, trusting the process, and still waiting – this is for you. Not because there’s something wrong with you. But because the gap between effort and outcome is one of the most disorienting places to be, and most people aren’t talking about it honestly.

This isn’t a post about manifesting harder or pushing through. It’s about the difference between real surrender and the conditional version most of us have been practicing without realizing it.

The Hidden Condition Inside Most “Trust”

There’s a version of trust that sounds like surrender but isn’t.

It sounds like: I’m releasing this. I’m letting go. I trust it’s going to work out.

But underneath, there’s a quiet agreement: as long as it works out the way I’m expecting.

That’s not trust. That’s a negotiation with the outcome.

Real trust — the kind that actually steadies your nervous system and lets you keep moving — doesn’t have that condition attached. It says: I’m doing my part. The rest isn’t mine to control. And it means that even if the outcome looks different than you planned, you can stay grounded.

The difference sounds subtle. But it changes everything about how you show up, how you make decisions, and how much energy you spend white-knuckling results that were never yours to manage.

What “Walk by Faith” Actually Looks Like in Practice

It Starts With Honest Context

Real faith doesn’t require pretending things are fine when they aren’t.

In a recent episode of Money Simplified, Aimee Cerka shared what prompted this conversation: a season of genuine financial uncertainty. Inconsistent income streams. Selling systems that needed rebuilding. The kind of season where the logical part of you can see exactly what happened and why — and it still doesn’t make the uncertainty feel smaller.

Being honest about the hard season isn’t the opposite of faith. It’s the foundation of it.

It’s Triggered by Small Things

The catalyst for this episode wasn’t a crisis. It was a $40 walking challenge.

Aimee came across a group challenge on Instagram — walking a mile a day for 40 days while studying the Book of Acts. She wanted in immediately. And then she saw the price and realized it wasn’t in the budget.

What followed was a moment most of us know well: the spiral. What does it mean that I can’t afford this? What does this say about where I am? The money patterns started firing.

She caught it. Redirected. And sitting in church that Sunday, the reframe arrived: I can do this myself. This doesn’t have to be a group thing. This is about me and my relationship with God.

What started as disappointment became a 40-day personal commitment — walk a mile a day, one earbud in, praise and worship, just her and her faith.

The Commitment Is the Action

The walk by faith practice wasn’t passive. It was a decision made and followed through on, even when the weather was muggy and the conditions weren’t ideal.

That’s the part that gets missed in conversations about surrender. Trusting the outcome doesn’t mean stopping the action. It means taking the action without making the outcome the condition for your peace.

The Difference Between Taking Action and Frantic Action

Gut Over Mind

There’s a reason fear-driven action is exhausting — it’s coming from the wrong place.

When you’re operating from your mind, you’re in the territory of fear, guilt, and shame. That’s not a character flaw. That’s the human experience. Your mind’s job is to protect you, and it does that by running worst-case scenarios on repeat.

Your gut — your soul knowing — operates differently. It’s quieter. Steadier. It doesn’t need the outcome confirmed before it moves forward.

Taking action from your gut looks like: doing the next right thing, trusting the direction, and releasing the timeline.

Taking action from your mind looks like: doing all the things frantically because something has to work right now.

One is sustainable. One burns you out.

What You Focus On Shapes What You See

There’s a portion of your brain — the reticular activating system — that filters what you notice based on what you’ve told it is important.

The classic example: you never noticed black Expeditions until you drove one. Now you see them everywhere. They were always there. Your brain just wasn’t flagging them as relevant.

The same principle applies to your business and your finances. When you’re focused on what’s going wrong, your brain surfaces more evidence of what’s going wrong. Not because things are actually worse — but because that’s what it’s been told to look for.

Being intentional about what you meditate on isn’t toxic positivity. It’s working with how your brain actually functions.

You’ve Figured It Out Every Other Time

Here’s the thing that’s both terrifying and true: you have a 100% track record of getting through hard things.

Every worst-case scenario you’ve survived. Every season you thought might break you. Every time you weren’t sure how it was going to work out — it worked out. Not always how you planned. But you’re still here.

That’s not nothing. That’s evidence.

Real surrender isn’t giving up. It’s trusting that you’re supported in the outcome — even if it looks different than you pictured. It’s doing your part and releasing the rest. It’s staying grounded when the timeline isn’t yours.

You’re not behind. You’re not doing it wrong. You’re in the gap — and the gap is where faith actually gets built.

Key Takeaways

  • Conditional trust sounds like surrender but has an outcome attached. Real trust releases the condition.
  • Taking action unattached from the outcome isn’t passive — it’s the most grounded place you can operate from.
  • Fear-driven action is exhausting and unsustainable. Gut-driven action is steady and aligned.
  • What you focus on shapes what you notice — this is brain science, not just mindset work.
  • You have a track record. You’ve figured it out every other time. That’s evidence worth returning to.

If You’re in a Hard Season Right Now

You’re not the exception. You’re not the only one. And you’re not as far behind as it feels.

If you’re ready to understand the money pattern that’s been running the show underneath all of it — the one that shows up as avoidance, frantic action, or gripping outcomes — the Money Villain Quiz is a good place to start. Seven questions, 90 seconds, completely free.

From there, the Money Pattern Decoder helps you go deeper — understanding where the pattern came from, where you’ve given shame more power than it deserves, and how to shift it into something that actually works for you.

And if you want to go even further, Breaking the Money Cycle is a free private podcast walking through the six key shifts every entrepreneur needs to make to step into real financial confidence.

Want to Hear the Full Conversation?

This episode came straight from a real moment — post-walk, a little sweaty, sitting with what was true. That’s the energy it carries.

The transcript below is the full, unedited conversation. It’s the kind of honest that’s hard to manufacture and easy to feel. If you’ve been in a season where the effort and the outcome feel misaligned, listen through to the end.

Below is the full transcript of the episode, where I walk through this in more depth.

When Trust Has a Hidden Condition

So have you heard the idea of trust? And you’re like, “Trust, trust that it’s all gonna work out. Trust that you can release these things.” And the surrender aspect talked about when it comes to finances and business, relationship, the all the things.

I think we hear that. And we can fall into a surrender where we’re trusting, air quotes, but we’re trusting only if we get that result. Does that make sense? Let’s just… We’ll get into it.

What’s Actually Been Happening This Year

Okay. I am coming to you post-walk. I’m still, like, ugh, a little sweaty. I’m in Texas, right? It’s hot. Although, it’s more muggy today than anything.

We haven’t hit the true heat. But you know, just old shirt that I had on for when I went on my walk, which is part of what prompted all of this.

There’s been several things that have shown up for me this year. I think I am, or I know I’m not the only one that has had some craziness happen, and I think every year there’s some craziness happening. Like, that’s kind of how life works, right? Like, we have these ups and downs.

I can say that several of these felt like major things, and they probably are, and then at the same time they aren’t. Like, I’m not trying to like, “Big rock, this is the biggest thing ever. Like, you’ve got to understand this is what we’re going through,” or not.

But there has been uncertainty.

When Financial Consistency Disappears

There have been multiple forms of support that I have had access to, and we’re talking financially. So financial support, multiple streams of financial support that were consistent and are not, currently not consistent.

Like, I can’t really rely on them that they’re gonna be there, okay? We’ve had some fluctuations. I was in a very heavy client delivery mode for a while, and because I was in a heavy client delivery mode for a while, guess what I wasn’t doing? Selling.

Guess what systems needed to be updated and weren’t really in place to help things happen on Evergreen? My nurture and selling systems, so guess what’s been lower as a result? Sales. Okay. Just like strategic pathway and I can see all that from a logical perspective.

New Resources Worth Knowing About

Um, side note, I have like three new things that have been created that I’m pretty excited about. I think they’re ready enough that I can share like info about you.

We’ve talked a little bit about Breaking the Money Cycle, which is a private podcast, and to be completely transparent, in the two episodes that I talked about it, I promoted the podcast, but I wasn’t in the energetic space to record that podcast series when I thought I would be, so like there wasn’t anything there. But hey, that’s done now. And Breaking the Money Cycle is what it’s called.

Inside Breaking the Money Cycle, I’m going through the six key shifts that every entrepreneur needs to make to truly, like, unlock all of the financial success from alignment that we’re looking for. That one’s completely free.

We’ve also created the Money Villain Quiz, which I’m pretty excited about. It was a lot of fun to do. So we all have this pattern that’s running subconsciously, or really we can be conscious of it or subconscious, either one. We have this pattern that’s running the show, and when it’s in its villain era, it’s sabotaging our success. But really, that thing, that pattern can truly be your superpower when you use it for good.

So inside the Money Villain Quiz, it’s seven questions, should take you about 90 seconds. Really, like, it’s not in-depth, crazy numbers, any of those things. Okay? Helps you identify the money pattern that’s been running the show so that we can shift it.

And then we’ve got the Money Pattern Decoder. So it uses your quiz result, and if you haven’t taken the quiz, then you can go through all four archetypes, right? And helps you uncover that. Go deeper. Why did this show up in your life? What were the circumstances? How have you let this affect you? Where have you put shame on things that we didn’t need to put shame on? And help you uncover that superpower.

So I’ll put the links for all those in the show notes.

The Real Reason Sales Were Lower

Sales were lower, right? Because I hadn’t done the things that I needed or didn’t have the systems in place either, ’cause it’s not really, like, has to be me, and we can go into Money Magnet, I’m gonna get to that in a second, and, like, the Money Magnet Challenge, and a lot of what we worked on there, the past seeds can still show up.

Okay? Anyways, caught you up on all the context.

The $40 Challenge That Started Everything

So on, I think it was Saturday, maybe Sunday, I ran across a challenge on Instagram that… I don’t remember what they called their challenge. I know what I’m calling my version now. But essentially, they were walking, running, whatever, a mile a day, as a group, for 40 days, and studying the Book of Acts.

Well, they did it. Okay? Jesus was tested for 40 days, you know, 40 days, 40 nights, um, with the rain, Noah’s Ark, all of those biblical references. Okay? There’s a lot of symbolism in that number.

When I saw the challenge, it was an instant like, “Ooh, I wanna be in that room.” Like I want to do that. I wanna have the community supportive, praying for each other. I wanna do that intention with the walking. So I went to check it out, and the price point for the challenge is not in the budget right now.

It’s just not. I mean, sure, like the money’s technically there, but it’s not in the budget. So then I went through the moment of frustration, adding all of the meaning on it because I couldn’t join that challenge. What does that mean about me? Like, all of those patterns, it started to show up for a minute.

Caught it. It’s like, no, is what it is.

Doing It Alone — On Purpose

So Sunday, I think I was sitting in church and it hit me. It was like, well, why don’t I do this myself? I can do this. I can find something, a devotion that we study. I can set this time that we plan to walk at least a mile every day for 40 days.

And then it became like this big thing that was growing and it was like, oh yeah, I can get together this group and I can ask these friends, and I ask them if they wanna do it. And then it became this big thing that I was gonna have to coordinate and figure out and truly add more to my plate.

When I sat with it, it’s like that’s not what this was about. This was about, yes, the companionship sounded appealing, but this was about me and my relationship with God, and leaning in and trusting, and the surrender there, and the knowing that’s supported.

The Walk by Faith Commitment

And I’m gonna walk through what this actually looks like, right? So then it’s like, okay, I need to do this, and let’s do it. Like, I’m gonna start this. We’re gonna start it today even though the weather’s crazy, even though this. Like, I’m gonna walk at least a mile every day for 40 days.

And the commitment that I’ve made to myself is during this intentional walk time, ’cause I love to walk, I love to hike, I love to walk, all of those things. It’s, like, very therapeutic for me. I enjoy it.

But my commitment was that I was gonna listen to praise and worship music during this time. One earbud in, you know, safety, then I can also hear the birds and everything else, right? That was my commitment. So that’s what I did. And I took action on it and I did the thing.

Taking Action While the Results Are Still Pending

But the thing that was sitting on my heart today whenever I was walking, so I’m calling it walk by faith, so doing my walk by faith walk, was doing the action.

I’m doing the action, right? I’m doing the things. I hosted the inflation workshop, which really didn’t get promoted because it was a very last-minute thing. So if you are listening to this in the week that it’s live, that replay is still available. I’ll put a link below so you can grab that. If it’s after the fact, it’s still available inside the Unstoppable Experience.

I hosted that training. I did the things. I’ve created the money pattern decoder. I spoke on a summit today. There was so many things going on. I’m doing the work, right? I’m taking the action, and I’m trusting that it’s gonna work out.

Anchoring Back Into “I’m Okay No Matter What”

And I have my expectation and my belief in the way that it’s gonna work out and the way that things are gonna show up. But the walk by faith walk helps me anchor back into I’m okay no matter what.

God’s got me. I’ve got me. It’s His ultimate plan. Like, He knows how it’s all gonna work out. And when I listen to my gut, when I listen to my intuition, I believe that’s His guidance.

If I’m doing those things, it’s all gonna work out. And if it doesn’t work out the way that I think it’s gonna work out, it’s gonna be better, right? This or something better.

Gut Over Mind — The Real Practice

We’re taking the action. We’re hearing into our gut, not our mind, right? Because your mind is where, you know, we get into the fear and the guilt and the shame. Like, that takes off, right? That’s the human experience.

Your gut, your soul knowing, doing the action that we need to do unattached to the results. ‘Cause the results are gonna show up in the way that they need to show up. It could be now, it could be two days from now, it could be two months from now, two years from now.

I don’t know. But I know that I’m doing my part, and that I’m divinely supported.

What You Meditate On Matters

I would love for it to show up exactly how I’ve envisioned it. And it is important what we think and what we meditate on. It’s not just this like, “Oh, it doesn’t matter anyways.”

Like, your mind having control… And it’s not even really controlling your thoughts. Being intentional with what you’re meditating on, right? We’ve been given dominion on this earth. So when you’re thinking negative things about yourself and you’re focusing on the negative, guess what you’re getting more of? The negative.

And even if it’s not even actually getting more of it, it’s what you’re seeing more of.

The Black Expedition Analogy

So your reticulated activator, which talk– activator, I don’t think that’s right. It’s a portion of your brain that notices things. So you know how before you buy a vehicle, like you don’t see them anywhere, whatever, and it’s not that they don’t exist, okay?

And so right now I drive a black Expedition, right? So before I had the Expedition, the black Expedition, I don’t know that I really noticed them everywhere. I might. But now that I have this, I’m looking, I notice all the black Expeditions. They were always there. My brain saw, like I saw them, but my brain didn’t register it because it wasn’t deemed as important.

So when you can deem the positive things, the successful things, the things that make you feel satisfied, when you can focus on those, that makes a difference. Again, you know, the what you focus on grows, all of those things. It all shows up.

Action Without the Frantic Energy

Doing the action unattached from the result. And not burning yourself out and doing all the crazy action because we gotta create something now. Crazy frantic. We have to trust. Trust that we’re gonna be okay no matter what.

I’ve seen something going around, it’s probably Instagram again, right? That said, “You are spending a lot of time worrying about things when you figured it out every other time.”

We figure it out, don’t we? And that can be scary as hell to say. Like, I can kinda feel it. It’s like the, “Oh my God, what if the worst case scenario actually happens?”

How many times does the worst case scenario actually ever happen? Smaller. Most the time we’re okay. We are okay.

Can You Trust That It’s for Your Greatest Good?

And even if it all falls apart, can you trust that it’s for your greatest good? And I know, especially those of us who have tried to control things, it doesn’t feel good to let go of that.

Like, I don’t want it to fall all apart. Like, let me, let me fix it all so it doesn’t fall all apart. But that’s not trust. That’s not surrender. And you’re supported. You get to trust, and you get to surrender.

You’re Not the Only One

All right. That’s my walk by faith story, journey. Hopefully it is helpful for you. At a minimum, know this: you’re not alone.

If you’re going through something hard, you are not the only one. I think that’s one of the things that I tell clients most often. So they’ll come to me, and it’s like, “This is so bad. It’s like, all, it’s the worst thing ever. I know I’m so terrible at this.”

And it’s like, “You’re not the exception. There’s so many people in this space. Give yourself a little bit of grace. Like, you’re okay. It’s not as bad as you think. We can get there faster than you think.”
