Staying on Track with Your Mid-Year Goals

Welcome back to another episode of the Your Money Your Life podcast. I’m your host, Aimee Cerka.

We are talking about our goals today. And our 12-week if you’re doing 12-week goals, if you set annual goals, checking in with our goals.

So what are your goals? Have you made progress? What’s working right now? What’s not working right now? What do you need to fix to actually be able to hit the goal?

Um, those are really, I think I feel what four or five questions that you, those are really the questions that we need to work on. And we’re going to talk, let’s talk on like about the pitfalls first. And then we’ll really be able to reflect and see where you’re at with your goals, Okay.

The Importance of Balancing Your Life and Goals

So pitfalls. Um, the pitfall that I see happen time and time again, is we ignore other areas of our life. So we’ll go hardcore in one area, and totally ignore another. It this isn’t about like achieving equilibrium, 50/50 balance all these things.

But we need to have a healthy balance, and balance again doesn’t have to be equal, balance means we’re at peace.

You’re confident you feel good about the way that you show up. We’re not shoving our kids in our closet while we’re working towards an income goal. If you’re focusing on an income goal, my kids are clearly not shoved in the closet, because you can probably hear him in the background, they’re getting a little loud, but the other areas of our life that we tend to ignore.

Key Areas to Focus on When Setting Goals

So we’re gonna talk about the areas that I set goals and that I’m mindful of at least when it comes to my goal setting, so you have your physical health. This is like your physical fitness, but like your health overall, how, where your physical being is. So this could be nutritional goals. This could be so many different things. It doesn’t just have to be exercise, because you know, exercise really isn’t a huge thing for me.

Of course, we have our financial goals and you know, you’re listening to this podcast, I’m hoping you have financial goals. But the point of this episode is to show you, you need more than just your financial goals.

Then we have our spiritual goals how your relationship is for myself, you know that I am a Christian, and my role my spiritual relationship with my Heavenly Father is very important, and making sure that I have goals to continue to grow in those, in that area. And there’s also a difference between having a goal where we accomplish something where it’s like a checkmark in the box, and a goal where you become a better person.

So for example, like for a while, what was two years ago now, three years ago now, I set a goal to read through my Bible in a year right? And to be honest, the first year, probably year and a half. I was doing it for that, you know, like check mark in the box like so that I can say that I did it I read my Bible in a year that I did this thing. It became more about that habit what I was able to do in that timeframe.

Recognizing Self-Sabotage and Preventing Burnout

Then you have your personal goals, and this is personal where it’ll show up like friendships, personal can be mindset, personal self-care, there’s so many different things that fit into, like taking care of you as a person. That is really important as well to have goals there that we’re not self, sabotaging, we’re not harming ourselves, we’re not burning ourselves out just to achieve these goals.

And then, of course, we have our business goals, work goals, professional goals, all of those things.

And then you can have goals as a family, we joke that I had set the intention. Let’s see end of 2021, I put together my board for 2022, some of the things that I want to make happen. One of those things that I added on, there was bi-weekly date nights with my husband. And here we are expecting our fourth child, the end of August, beginning of September. The funny thing is, like when I put that together, I was already pregnant, we just didn’t know it. But I wrote irony there for you.

But those are some of the pitfalls, pitfalls that we end up ignoring some of the other areas. So hopefully you were writing those down.

Inside money masters Academy. We, we go through this we talk about vision and goal setting and the way that it relates to your finances and the way that you build the healthy habits into this. If you miss out on during the academy, all including the notes, a link in the show notes for you to check it out.

But hopefully, you’re at least writing these down, these categories down. So you can be mindful of those and thinking about like, what do you want your life to look like in regards to those different areas of your life, what changes you need to meet making, there are what changes you want to make that you don’t want to sabotage in those areas as well. That’s just as important.

The Art of Checking In on Your Goals

So let’s go back to our check-in know where we’re at with our goals. So we’re checking in with our goals to see if we’re on track. We didn’t have to know what the goals are. So hopefully you’ve set like tangible goals that you can know whether you’ve achieved them or not.

Sometimes it’s kind of like a state of being goal. But we still need to have the tangible goals as well. So we’re talking about tangible goals. So write down your tangible goal, make a note like what progress have you made? When did you set this goal? How far have you come?

Making the Right Tweaks for Goal Success

Again, look at what needs to be improved. If things are working great. Keep doing those things. But if there’s things that we need to tweak, if they’re not working, then tweak them. Like for example, recording this podcast episode is a tweak, because like I mentioned, I’m expecting and getting a little bit easier. It’s getting a little bit easier to be out of breath.

So for myself, I used to batch all of my videos, and my recording and try and do them really just on one day. Well, when you’re getting out of breath, you can’t really batch as well. So I’m recording this podcast episode on a Monday. And that’s typically not something that I would do. But I realized it was a tweak that I needed to make to be able to continue to hit my goal. We call that process PDCA. Plan, do check, and adjust.

So what do you need to do to get hit the goal? Like what’s the difference? What are we looking at here? We’re talking football, do you need 30 yards? Do you need 70 yards? What’s the difference?

And don’t be as concerned if you’re not. A lot of times when we break up bowls, we’ll break it up into, let’s say you want to have 100k year we’ll break it up into whatever that is like 8000 Something a month. Okay. But frankly, that’s not how it works.

There’s ebbs and flows and everything. So yes, we can shoot for an average of that. But if you’re a little bit behind, I wouldn’t be stressing about that because we also create momentum. And as you create momentum, you’re going to make more you’re going to increase those months, as long as you’re set up to scale correctly. Another thing to note, but are you on track with your momentum.

Tracking Progress and Building Momentum

That’s why we’re checking about the progress that you’ve made, the improvements that you’ve done, what things are working, keep doing those, and what tweaks can be made that you can scale faster. Hit your goals and dreams that much sooner.

So mid-year the check. We’ve talked about our pitfalls, where we focus on one area of our life and then self-sabotage and another so that we end up having to go back and focus on the other area of our life again, yep. Right. And then we talked about what notes I would be asking myself if we’re or what notes I do ask myself when I’m evaluating my goals because we always should be setting our goals.

Mid-Year Challenge: Staying on the Right Path

So your challenge today, what’s the step that you need to take to ensure that you stay on path this quarter?

Now we’re in the middle of summer right now. And often that can be a little bit harder to stay on track.

So if we’ve got the goals and the system and the accountability and all that in place, which is really important when it comes to goal setting and vision, just for sustainability but, we need to be mindful that of that as well.

So your challenge send me a message on Instagram. I’d love to hear what steps you’re taking to ensure you’re gonna stay on path this quarter. And what was your takeaway from this episode?
