Interview:

Aimee: Welcome, Yvonne, to the “Your Money Your Life” podcast. I’m so excited to have you here today. I think this is going to be a great conversation.

Yvonne: Thank you so much for having me, Aimee. I’m so honored to be here. And yeah, I know we had a couple of chats before we jumped on and got a little spicy, so I’m excited to see where this goes!

Aimee: Definitely. So first off, I always like to ask, what does “Your Money Your Life” mean to you?

Yvonne: For me, it’s about freedom. It’s about having the freedom to not constantly worry or have that monkey on your back. The ability to fulfill what you want to do in life, whether it’s caring for loved ones or pursuing your passions. Health and finances are so intertwined; they directly impact each other. The healthier your finances, the better your health can be, and vice versa.

Aimee: Absolutely. We’ve talked about how these areas overlap and affect each other. I love how you focus on eliminating pain naturally. Can you tell me about your journey and how you came to focus on healing and eliminating pain naturally?

Yvonne: Sure. I’m trained as a Doctor of Physical Therapy with a Master’s as well and am also a Pilates Instructor. I worked in various settings, from hospitals to outpatient orthopedics. I specialized in pre and post-operative care for over a decade. I realized that the traditional medical model often focuses on symptoms rather than the root cause. Many surgeries and treatments I saw could have been avoided with a more holistic approach. People often think they can’t reverse conditions like chronic pain or arthritis, but I’ve seen firsthand that it’s possible with the right mindset and consistent small changes.

Aimee: That’s so true. We’re often taught to just accept things as they are without questioning if there’s a better way. What’s one myth you’d want to bust to help people see the light?

Yvonne: The biggest myth is that chronic pain and illnesses are irreversible or just due to age or genetics. People often don’t believe they can change their situation because they’ve been told otherwise. But with the right mindset and consistent small steps, they can achieve significant improvements. It’s also about understanding that getting healthy and pain-free is simple but requires consistent effort in lifestyle choices like diet, exercise, sleep, and hydration.

Aimee: Absolutely. It’s about making those small, consistent changes. We talk a lot about how people need to build a solid financial foundation. The same applies to health. It’s not just about addressing the symptoms but creating a resilient system. Can you talk about the importance of prevention in your work?

Yvonne: Prevention is key. Many people rely on reactive measures like painkillers or surgeries when proactive measures could prevent these issues. Consistent small steps in diet, exercise, and overall lifestyle can make a huge difference. It’s also about having a framework and a proven system in place, so when life throws you a curveball, you’re resilient enough to handle it. This applies to both health and finances.

Aimee: Yes, it’s not if something will happen, but when. Being prepared makes all the difference. You mentioned the importance of investing in health and how many people are hesitant to spend on things like personal trainers or health coaches. Why do you think this is?

Yvonne: People often see health expenses as optional rather than essential. They might be willing to spend on other areas but hesitate when it comes to investing in their health. This mindset needs to change. Investing in health is just as important as any other investment because it impacts your quality of life in every way. And the benefits of being proactive rather than reactive are immense.

Aimee: Definitely. It’s about shifting the mindset to see health investments as non-negotiable. There are so many misconceptions about healthcare, including the reliance on traditional medical insurance. What are your thoughts on this?

Yvonne: Many people believe that traditional medical insurance is the only way to go, but there are alternative options like cost-sharing programs that can be more economical and effective, especially if you’re proactive about your health. People need to explore all their options and not just rely on what’s been traditionally available. Being open to different solutions can make a big difference in managing both health and finances.

Aimee: That’s a great point. It’s about being informed and making the best choices for your situation. Thank you so much, Yvonne, for sharing your insights today. This has been a fantastic conversation.

Yvonne: Thank you for having me, Aimee. It’s been great talking with you, and I hope your listeners find this information helpful.
