The Pitfall of Reading Personal Finance Books

You read the book, The Secrets of the Millionaire Mind or Profit First, any one of those, we need to talk about the pitfall of reading those books. Before we do that, though, if we haven’t met yet, my name is Aimee Cerka, your go-to money confidence coach for making money simple was straight to the point strategies all so that you can make more money in less time. So what’s the problem with reading books like Secrets of the Millionaire nine, or a Profit First, those are probably the two most popular that I hear.

Reading Isn’t Enough

The problem with it, is we read the book. And then we don’t do anything about it. We haven’t done the work. We haven’t applied things. But we feel like we’re making progress because we’ve read the book, right?

So they’re fantastic books. Don’t get me wrong. I love both of them. They’re great. Profit First is a little too complicated for most business owners I found works great. But most of us need a little bit more simplified system, which is why I created prosperity simplified.

The Allure of Personal Development

It’s not what we’re talking about today. But when you read the book, you can’t just read the book. As personal development junkies, myself included, we are so guilty of that, because we get that dopamine hit, we get that checkmark of “oh, we’re doing things we’re taking action. We’ve read the book.”

Yeah, I did that. That’s like one of my favorite books. What are you doing with it? When often with our money, it falls to the backburner. We don’t do the things that we need to with our money because we’re doing the bare minimum to get by, you know, the bills are getting paid. And it’s not yelling at you, right?

Money Matters Require Action

We don’t have the sales and marketing. If you’re not doing that portion, you’re not getting clients, it’s kind of yelling at you. But doing the work that you need to with your money is much more subtle.

So if you read the book, fantastic, keep reading the book, but make sure that reading the book is not where the action ends, make sure you’re continuing to do the things that you need to to move forward and actually take action on it. Don’t just read the book.
