Reflecting on 2024 with Aimee Cerka
Let’s take a moment. You know, it might be a little stereotypical, but we’re gonna take today’s episode to review, reflect on what happened in 2024 and some of the lessons and takeaways that I’ve had. But we’re gonna do it from a lens on what has been the biggest needle mover in my business this far from, like, those takeaways. So. All right, let’s get to it. This is the your Money, your Life podcast. I’m your host, Amy Cerka, a money confidence coach for female entrepreneurs on the path to six figures. After over 10 years in the personal finance industry and multiple personal, financial and medical crises, I was fed up with the lies that are being shouted from the rooftops by the gurus and the media.
Simplify, Solidify, and Scale Your Money
So now I help you simplify, solidify, and scale your money. By blending tactile money strategies with mindset work, you can create unstoppable finances together. You’ll finally figure out the money thing so you can make more money in less time without living off of beans and rice or sacrificing your lifestyle. The episodes here on the podcast are short and sweet. Being married, having four kids at home, homeschooling, being a CEO, running the household. I’m kind of busy, and I know you are too. So let’s keep it simple and get to the point.
Welcome to the Last Episode of 2024
Welcome. I’m so glad you’re here. Welcome back to the your Money, your Life podcast, our last episode of 2024. We’re taking today to reflect on the year and some of the principles, strategies, breakthroughs, some of the things that I saw this year, both within my business and some of my clients as well. A lot of these are going to be introspective though. So we’re going to say most of this is the biggest takeaways, breakthroughs that I saw in this year. I did not get my numbers together in front of me before I hit record, but I know that we were up in July. We had already surpassed our income from my income from 2023.
A Year of Personal Change
So we were up quite a bit on income. We don’t have final numbers yet because, you know, the year hasn’t finalized either. But yeah, okay, let’s see. I’ve got five things that I kind of wanted to cover. And yeah, here we go. If you don’t know, 2024 was a year of a lot of personal change behind the scenes for me. There was a lot going on that I was maneuvering, handling things that went well, things that didn’t necessarily feel like they went well and then we see how much better they are in the long run. We’re going to get to that here in a second.
Consistent for Consistency’s Sake
So the first thing that I wanted to highlight is I was always somebody who was like, tell me what to do and I’ll do it. Like, I’ll do the things. I’ll take the action, host the summit. A couple of years ago. We’ve talked about this before, right? Even like on the podcast. We’ll launch the podcast, we’ll figure it out. Launched the podcast, found out I was pregnant. Like, I don’t. Six weeks into it, about a month into it, somewhere in there and we made it. I figured out was consistent. Episodes still were dropped every week live while I was on maternity leave. All of those things, right? Like, I did the work. Tell me what to do, we’ll do it. We’ll post on Instagram, okay. And I will do the same thing when it comes to either health and step goals and all of those things, right? Like, I will tell me what to do and we’ll do it and I will be consistent. And I have that consistency.
Learning to Release
Muscle is what we’ve called it before. Like, I can do those things. But one of the realizations that I walk through and this probably is going to make more sense, like, as we get through, some of the other ones that we’re going to talk about today is, is I quit. I released. There we go. Released being consistent just for the sake of being consistent. There were some times, there were some things that I did. It was like, okay, I’m going to hit this and I’m going to do it.
Setting Aside Goals
I’m going to hit this goal. I’m going to be consistent. I’m going to do those things. Because there was a time it was like, I’m going to prove to myself that I can do it. Okay. So, for example, I had joined a 365-mile hiking challenge that we started on January 1st. Hike 365 miles in 365 days, right? But I got injured in, I want to say it was May, it might have been March. And I really couldn’t, I couldn’t hike at all.
Adjusting to New Realities
Like my foot just couldn’t handle it. It was making it worse. And so we had come to terms with releasing that goal. Okay. And then over the summer, fall, there was enough healing that I had done on my foot that I was able to really start walking again. And at first, it was like I couldn’t do more than three miles. Now I’m up to about five. So, you know, there’s progress there. Right. But what I decided to do was like a thing that I could control was how many steps that I took every day. So for me, it was 6,000. Just making sure I hit 6,000. Now, like, on a day that I’m like, up around whatever taking care of the kids and stuff, like, you can hit that easily, right? But on working days where I’m just, there’s a lot of sitting involved. Like, okay, yeah, there was work. And there were several evenings where I was like walking laps around my house, listening to a training with my.
Dropping Unnecessary Goals
My earbuds and walking laps around my house to hit the number. So November for sure. I’m trying to remember October as well. Like, we. I made it happen. 6,000 steps every single day. But December 1st showed up and I was in the middle of a huge work project, so the steps weren’t there. And I could have sat there and made myself walk laps, whatever hit the 6,000 steps.
Realizing the Importance of Priorities
But I realized if I did that, I was just being consistent for the sake of being consistent. Right. I had done the thing. I had proved to myself that I could do it and I could do it. This was just. There was a different priority that day, and it’s okay. And even though my step tracker app was yelling at me that we broke the consistency streak and all of those things, it was okay because I didn’t have to be consistent just for the. For consistency.
Reflecting on Your Own Actions
So my question to you, to reflect on what is something that you’re doing, just to be doing it, like, just because you feel like you have to. And it’s almost like that badge of honor, right? I have to be consistent. Just be consistent. What is that thing for you? And I’d love for you to send me a message and let me know what some of these things are for you on Instagram @AmyCirka. We’ll put the link in the show notes for that. But I would love to hear, like, what your takeaways are reflection from 2024 as well. The second thing that. And these really tie in.
Outworking Problems
This has been one that’s been like a progress and it really has to do with the idea that, like, I have. We have to outwork our problems, right? If there’s something going on and you just have to put in more work, you can do this. You have to just have to work more. I just have to work more. And then I can outwork whatever this situation is you’re trying to avoid. Okay. And the reason okay, hold on. There’s four things here, not five, because those two are the same.
Easing the Work Burden
Read my notes, but a little bit better. But the reason that we’re. I was able to release some of that, like I just have to work to do it. And again, it’s about that obligation. It’s, you know, we feel like we have to do these things because we see everybody else do it. So, you know, I did several launches this year that were email only and I love it. It feels so much more aligned. I’ve taken a step back from social media.
Enjoying Social Media
I still show up on my stories because I enjoy it. I share aspects like of my kids and life. There’s some of the behind the scenes and stuff. But for me, like that’s when I show up and have that intention and remind myself like, why. Again, it’s not that have to. That’s really what we’re going back to. It’s not that you have to do it out of obligation. I have to post, oh, I have to come up with something.
Sharing Fun Moments
And again, set consistent for consistent sake. Like when you take that obligation out of it. What if you could approach social media and do it in a way that feels fun, do it in the way that you want to do it feels aligned. So that’s like the behind the scenes, that’s sharing about the funny stuff that my kids do all the time. Because, you know, it is a little crazy and you know, I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Like we have that fun. We have those things and I can share those moments on social media. I can do that and have fun.
Having Fun on Social Media
This is like, even like when, what do we do to engage on social media? Like natively when you’re using social media, we show up to have fun, right? So it’s like, hey, we’re going to go like reels that make us laugh or whatever. Still keeping that mentality and sharing those precious moments, whatever it might be, those insights, those downloads, but removing that, working nonstop, posting nonstop, outworking your problems. I just have to do more. I just have to do more. I just have to do more. Right. And I had already taken a step back from that. But with everything that went on like in the behind the scenes, there’s a lot of people who would look at what was actually done and think I was absolutely out of my mind. Like that’s just the way it works. Because to the outside person it wouldn’t make sense at all.
Trusting Yourself
But the reason why I can do that. And yes, there’s moments, you know, where I doubt myself, that happens with all of us, right? Like that self doubt creeps up, imposter syndrome, all of those things, right. But the reason why I can release some of those things that we’ve done for years just because, you know, we had to do. Had air quotes for the podcast listeners, had to do them. You can release that because there’s a trust and a listening that I’ve worked on so much this year. It’s securing myself again. And that takes a lot of work because again, our surroundings are loud, right? Like knowing and being able to trust yourself. We’ve talked about the unstoppable finances framework for years and we’ve gone through that.
Embodying Trust
But there’s a difference between doing the steps, even with the mindset piece, doing all the steps, doing the tactical, step by step strategy, and truly embodying it. Right. And living it. So for myself, that trust. And I know, and we’re going to talk more about this next week because we’re going to talk about my take and the way that I orchestrate goal set, all of those things. Because goal setting in general has felt like income. Goal setting has felt icky. Okay? And we’re going to talk about why next week.
Making the Right Decisions
But having the trust in yourself and knowing that you can make a decision and it’s the right decision, whether it’s alignment and programs. This is why Money Mastery Academy changed and that we have all the tactical strategy there. But we really needed more time to work together and that was why the unstoppable experience was able to be created. And that, that container, that mentorship, like, that’s a program that I’ve really like loved the idea of for years. And I knew like this is kind of the container that we needed. But we needed to have the content in a certain spot. I needed to be in a certain spot so that I can deliver on those things. Like that’s the layer of trust, because the timing is the perfect timing when it’s supposed to work out.
Doing the Work Aligned
So we’re doing the work, we’re doing the things that we need to do. And then showing up with the trust in yourself, knowing that you’re doing the things that are aligned, that feel aligned, that you can just in your gut, you know, taking the steps that you need to take because you need to take them. And trusting and knowing that the results are going to come. I don’t know when, but I know that it’ll work out and I know that it’ll work out how it’s supposed to work out. Things will fall into place because we’re working. I’m working out of alignment. And that’s the goal here. Right.
Trusting Yourself Fully
So we have to do the tactical strategy, we have to do the mindset work. But then the embodiment is the trust in yourself. And that’s the hardest part. But that’s the thing that I leaned into most this year. And I think I know that’s why I’ve had the year that I’ve had. And again, there’s ups and downs in all of them every year. But finding the gratitude. We talked about this last week.
Finding Gratitude
The gratitude in the year that you had before. We move forward because again, we talked. Yeah, this was last week, too, that we just keep going, going, going, going, going. Like, I’m done with 2024. I don’t want to see it anymore. I’m just done. Can we get to 2025? And I can understand, you know, that there’s hard things that happen. There’s hard things that happen for me, too. Again.
Slow Down When Needed
But if I can’t appreciate where I’m at and the things that we did have, then we’re just going to blaze through life and what’s the point? So, okay, I feel like I’ve rambled enough. My year in reflection boils down to trusting in myself, operating in alignment of where I’m at and really slowing down to be more present. I am definitely, I said it earlier, the person that would do all the things. And like, I will take the action. I will do the step. I’m the, you know, whatever, strong, independent person that does all the things. Right. But it takes more strength to slow down and trust that things are going to work out the way they need to be and not stress about it.
Exciting Things Coming
Again, don’t have this figured out. Perfect. But that was what I wanted to share with you today. We’ve got some exciting things coming.
