Welcome to the Your Money Your Life podcast. I’m your host, Aimee Cerka. After my husband and I faced three major financial roadblocks in the last six years. I felt like I wasn’t doing all that I could and I had let my family down. It always felt like life was a struggle, like I had to work harder than everyone else. It just came easy to them. And I didn’t feel worthy of success, until a coach helped me see the successes in our experiences instead of our failures.
This allowed me to create and implement systems to grow our network by 200,000. Plus, while spending time with my loved ones and on my priorities. Now I help motivated women create the happiness, family life, financial security, and long term wealth they deserve. If you’re ready to eliminate stress, struggle, frustration and guilt within your finances, you’re in the right place. Welcome. I’m so glad you’re here

Welcome back to episode four of the Your Money, Your life Podcast. I’m so excited. You’re here we’re talking about the third and final pillar of our three front approach when it comes to your finances. So quick recap. In Episode Two, we talked about defense and making the most of your money. Episode Three, we talked about orphans all about making money, and the various ways that we do that and how to improve that, which means making more money.
Which brings us to today’s episode, talking all about the battlefield. Now. 90% of the battlefield is money mindset.
So that’s really where we’re focusing today. Because when you get this part figured out, this is where the biggest breakthroughs happen.
So I’m really excited to be diving into this today, but let’s kind of like just start with the basics. Okay.
What is money mindset? money mindset is your thoughts, feelings, emotions, actions around money. Now, we all have blocks when it comes to our money mindset. We call them money mindset blocks. And the reason for that is our majority of our money mindset was formed by the age of nine.
I don’t know about you. But I don’t know that like I had a clearer perspective on what was going on in the world at age nine, I’ve got a nine year old, right? And also like, I’m a human, which means like, I have fault, not perfect. And I was raised by humans. So like that we all have faults there.
We all have these mis misconceptions when it comes to our money mindset. And the thing to note here is it’s not even necessarily real. Like these things that we create when it comes to our money mindset.
Like it’s not even real. It’s really just our perception. So if you’re saying like I had a great childhood growing up, I don’t have any money mindset blocks. We do. We all do. It’s fine. No big deal, but just because you feel like you had a great childhood doesn’t mean that there’s something there we create things like out of nothing all the time. Our subconscious mind is an amazing thing is designed to protect us. But, you know, sometimes it goes a little overboard. And we’re going to talk a little bit about that in today’s episode.
So like I said, the battlefield here, within our money mindset is where the biggest breakthroughs happen. So stick with me here, I’m really excited to share this with you because it’s really important. And this blueprint that I’ve created was designed for the money mindset makeover. Blueprint. It’s the new course that I created on money mindset, and really helping you make over here, money mindset so you can finally achieve those goals that you’ve actually sent. And we’re going to talk about the overview of it today.
We have to know like, starting off, we have to know where we’re where we are actually at. And this is really important, because the money mindset piece is the part of finances that we can’t tangibly touch. So we don’t realize that it’s holding us back, like we can see the negative bank account from overspending with the defensive side, or we can see that we’re not making any income on the offensive side. But you can’t see the money mindset block, we kind of we, we learned to become aware of it, and then you recognize it, and you can like see it in that regard.
But it’s not something that we physically see that we see how we physically respond to things. But it’s the part that we can’t see. So where are you at?
Now, there are three ways that your money mindset is programmed.
It happens through verbal programming, modeling and visualization.
So verbal programming, what did your parents or other influential people say, around you all the time growing up, money doesn’t grow on trees, rich people are evil, we can’t afford that. It’s not the budget.
Then modeling. So what is something that you saw your parents or other influential people do all the time when it came to money. So maybe you grew up and saw your parents worked really hard for money, and they did well, financially. But their relationship suffered, and they never had any home time, or their health suffered. Or maybe they made a lot of money, and then they lost it off. Or maybe they worked their butts off and didn’t make a lot of money, the money was scarce. There’s also an aspect of making a lot of income.
07:30
But with inflation, things cost more now. So if we were somebody if you were frugal or more financial saving growing up, you can have trouble spending money now, because it costs more. So it feels like it’s a bigger investment. When when we look at inflation and all of those factors. It’s really not. But again, it feels like it is.
And the third part is visualization. And really the way that comes in this is not something that happens like on its own, this is more of an intentional one.
We’re going to get to some strategies to help you improve your money mindset in a minute. But visualization is, you know, visualizing where you want to be.
But that’s one way that we kind of figure out where we’re at.
So the second part of the money mindset makeover blueprint is the destination.
Where are you wanting to go?
We talked about this briefly last episode really knowing why.
Why you’re doing what you’re doing, like, what does this look like for you?
You’ve, you’ve succeeded, you’ve made it?
What does that look like?
When do you get up in the morning?
Like I said, Are you taking your kids to school? Are you spending time with your family? Like what does your ideal world look like?
Then the third step of the money mindset makeover blueprint is packing for the journey, which I know is going to silly, but these are our action steps.
This is what we can do to tangibly improve our money mindset to move forward and make progress with that. So I have some of these included in the money mindset mastery checklist, which is a free 10 step checklist to help you create that unshakable money mindset.
I’ll give you info in just a little bit on how to grab that because that’s going to be helpful for you as well.
But first thing that I want you to do to be able to take action with your money mindset is I want you to practice gratitude, writing down handwriting 10 things that you’re grateful for each and every day.
They can’t be the same things every day, but there can be some overlap. It doesn’t have to be crazy big things either. I know sometimes it’s like, I thankful that I have a good pillow because you know what that is important. Like some people don’t have that. Or I’m thankful that I have a roof over my head. We had a kind of crazy rainstorm last night it would have really sucked to not have a solid roof over our head.
Those things like that just practicing gratitude and appreciation, appreciating where you’re at now, that’s going to improve your money mindset without even you realizing it. And if this is something that you’re struggling with, I’ve got a challenge for you set a 10 things, I want you to one time write down 100 things that you’re grateful for. And make note of how long it takes you to complete this because the faster that you can get through this, the more solidified Your mindset is, and well, the more grateful that you are, the more often, more often you’re in gratitude. And you know, it’s November, so it’s a perfect time for it anyways.
The second action step that you can be taking when it comes to improving your money mindset is celebration. So we’re practicing, I encourage you to do in the morning 10 things that you’re grateful for each and every day. But at the end of the day, I want you to celebrate. So when I work with my clients, and for myself, we have to write down five things that we accomplished each and every day. Now, I typically do this like Monday through Friday, because I’m
11:08
it’s really important to me that we take that time off. So I typically end up working like, this is really five days, like a half day on Friday, and then a half day on Sunday evening, but like this part of the exercises, I’m doing Monday through Friday, so writing down five things that you accomplish each and every day. Again, it doesn’t have to be big things. But maybe you have a business and you’re consistent with your DMO for five days. You hit your DMO goal that can go on your list every single day.
Maybe you’re you split time and like your kid asked you to read a book, and you sat down to read the book with them. You said yes. Even though we all know there’s 15 million things on your to do list, you took time to be present with them. And to spend that time with them. Like you want to get a guest like what I did yesterday, we sat there and read who is the night before Christmas. So Brooklyn is already for Santa to come now. But writing down five things each and every day to celebrate and acknowledge like how far you’ve come, the progress that you’ve made, is really important.
And game changing, life changing, especially when it comes to your money mindset. It’s just changing our perspective on things. These are much more like surface level, not even really getting into what actually is holding us back with those within the money mindset. But these things are simple things that you can do right now, to see progress. And that’s what I want you to do, I want you to go see progress.
The third and final habit I’ve got for you when we’re packing on the journey is a visualization. Now we briefly mentioned it earlier, but just spend at least a minute or two, every day visualizing where you want to go. So what’s the next thing that you’re working on? For us, the next investment that will make will be in a new house? So you know what I look at houses every single day? Are they all perfect with what we were looking for?
No, but I’m keeping it in front of myself on a continual basis, I send the houses to my husband and my husband said house since houses to me, we’re looking at it, we’re not necessarily even caught up in like the specifics of like, okay, what has to be this house, this house is just perfect. It’s finding the things that we love, finding the things that we’re like, that’d be nice to have, and finding the things that we don’t like. And just staying in that product process of keeping it top of mind, like we know what we’re working towards.
That’s the next thing that we want to do. And when we hit this specific goal, then we’ll be ready to take the next step and make it happen. But you have to get to that point. So, um, it’s probably been 18-19 months ago, somewhere in there. I wanted a new car. So I have my Ford Expedition, I absolutely love it. But before that I wanted a new car. So I was looking at cars all the time. Now, it might not be a car or a house for you. Maybe it’s going on a new vacation and you’re looking at the pictures of where you want to go.
Maybe it’s like working less and being able to sleep and more. See what could you look at if you’re wanting to sleep in more, maybe looking at pictures of beds, new bed, something like that we can get kind of creative there.
Maybe your alarm clock, your alarm clock being set at the other time. That would be something you could look at there. But just getting it in front of you’re getting it to the front of mind every single day. It doesn’t have to take long. I mean even just a minute. It’s that practice that repeated practice that consistency is more important than like the length of time here.
Which brings us to the fourth step of the money mindset makeover blueprint because it’s not always going to be rainbows and butterflies. We are going to have rough days stuff comes up. It’s not always easy either. So when those things come up, we have those words Don’t, we have to be able to recover and move past them.
So they’re still going to happen. But you can kind of almost like waiting at a friend as they walk by, it’s like, Oh, hey, there you are, like, you’re still going, like, it’s not a problem. It’s not stopping you anymore. But we’re never going to get to like, go completely gone. We all have breakdowns, and habits. So if you’re in the middle of the breakdown, and what a breakdown is, is, when you feel like, kind of like the world is ending, you know that that emotional. I know for me, there’s always crying involved. But that frustration, that guilt, that worry, that fear that
15:43
even can be forms of anger, but like when you are not able to really do perform like you feel like everything is against you. That’s essentially what a break down is like, you cannot do it, you feel like you can’t do it. That’s a great way to explain it. There we go.
When that happens, I want you to first go through a breath exercise with me. Now I’m just going to tell you what to do. Because I cannot do this and talk the same time I’ve tried many times does not work. So simple breath exercise, which you’d breathe in through your nose for four seconds. And then out through your mouth for eight seconds. And you’ll do this a couple times. It’s simply a matter of slowing down in centering yourself. Being in control of where you’re at, and regaining that calmness, that center.
Okay, now, we need to change your environment. Now the ideally, we’ll get outside. Now I’m in Texas, we have decent weather. But I know there are other parts of the country and world that is already miserable, because it’s November when we’re recording this. But if you can get outside vitamin D, fresh air, those are so so powerful to help you regain where you’re at. I’ll stand in the grass barefoot, my husband thinks I’m crazy. But it works, you should try it. But at least get outside or at minimum change your environment.
So if you’ve created a breakdown something around like finances, or a business finance related thing, but if you’ve created a breakdown within that area, get out of there, don’t try and power through it. Because I know like you’re the go getter, I know that you could that you can power through it, and you could still make it happen. But the work is not going to be as high of a quality is if you get out of there, let yourself center Calm down, regain where you’re at. And then come approach whatever situation it is with a clear level head, okay. So if it’s something with business, finances related, go play a game with your kids, go do something, go take a hot shower, whatever it is for you. I know for myself, I love my music. And I love to drive get a little bit of a lead foot. So I love to take a drive in the car with the windows down and the music turned up. The kids aren’t crazy about it. So I really enjoy those little drives on myself that I’m able to do that. And it was funny, I realized that I hadn’t had that opportunity for a couple months. And it was really kind of weighing on me, I realized how much I had missed it. So it’s important to work that in even if you’re not having those regular breakdowns, like how to reframe and center yourself again. So, um, once you’ve done breaker exercises you’ve gotten outside, you’ve changed your environment.
The last resource I have for you when it comes to course corrections is having a coach. Now, yes, this is what I do. But if it’s not me have somebody like somebody with that outside perspective that can see what’s actually going on. I heard this analogy from somebody I was learning from that they talked about a pickle jar. So if you’re stuck inside the pickle jar, but you can’t, it’s the labels just white, like you can’t see how to get out and you’re just kind of struggling.
But if you have a coach, somebody standing on the outside of the pickle jar that says like, Okay, step here, and then step here, and then oh, avoid that, you’re going to get out that much faster. And that’s what a coach is designed to do, to like speed up that process towards success that you’re looking for. Again, you’re amazing. I’m sure you can accomplish it without it. But I don’t know about you.
Time is the one thing that we can never get back again. And I’m not looking to wasted. So make the most of your time. Have a coach in your tool belt of your resources that you have to help you overcome these steps.
Because we never arrive when it comes to your money mindset. Like I said, it’s going to continually come up.
We’ll have new things that we have to work through every time you’re like I think I’ve got this figured out. It shows up again. It’s like that unwind Did I don’t know, I guess that keeps showing up. Which if you’re an introvert like me, like that never happens, but because like we don’t have people over like that, but we have to continually work on this.
20:15
But it’s not going to hold you back indefinitely. It’s, I can, you’re gonna make that progress, and you’re going to be able to just become aware of it, but will never arrive. It’s a continual growth process. So don’t get discouraged if you feel like you finally had everything figured out. And then another money mindset block comes up. And that frustration, like I thought I had already dealt with this. It’s normal, but we all have it.
So don’t stay beating yourself up, use your resources there to course crack the breath exercises, changing your environment, talk to your coach, all of those things to move forward within your money mindset.
So there you have it, we have the four steps of the money mindset makeover blueprint, we started with where we are at, then we talked about your destination where you’re going, packing for the journey, giving you some tools to help you improve your money mindset. And then the fourth part was course correcting when stuff happens if you get off course. How do you regain where you’re trying to go and get back on track?
Now I mentioned the money mindset makeover checklist. That’s the 10 simple steps to create an unshakable money mindset. We talked briefly about a couple of the pieces on here. But I put together this checklist after numerous conversations, you know, with myself, and with clients and we put together the 10 most common things that we see hold people back when it comes to their money mindset.
