How to Reconnect with Your Numbers Without Stress

What if your bookkeeping doesn’t need an overhaul right now? If the thought of touching your books or setting them up brings dread, shame, or that behind yet again feeling, this episode is going to be for you.

Today, we’re taking the pressure all the way off. I’m going to show you the most supportive ways to reconnect with your numbers before the year ends without forcing yourself into a task or a cleanup that you just don’t have the capacity for.

So let’s get to it.

Money Simplified: A Calm, Safe Approach to Money

This is Money Simplified, the podcast where I help female entrepreneurs go from stress and struggle to unstoppable with money.

Money is more than just budgeting and P&Ls, and we’re going to take you through all of it. Here we blend proven financial strategy, mindset work, and energetic alignment so you can create unstoppable finances, build an unstoppable business, and truly enjoy your unstoppable life.

It’s time to take my wisdom and expertise to help you simplify money and go beyond the numbers. I’m your host, Aimee Cerka.

Welcome. I’m so glad you’re here.

Why Bookkeeping Feels Worse at the End of the Year

Welcome back to Money Simplified. I’m your host, Aimee Cerka. We’re talking really this month about how we are creating more rest, removing the pressure from ourselves and our businesses because there are so many more obligations right now, and today is going to be no exception.

Today we’re diving into the bookkeeping portion of this, one focus here for your bookkeeping. If you’ve missed several of the other episodes, make sure you check those out as well. They don’t necessarily build on each other; they’re just focusing on different areas.

Finish this one first and then go back. We’ve talked about decision making, your business finances, the number one thing that you need to increase your cash flow in December, and of course, today we are talking about bookkeeping and your books in general.

End of the year, January, February—it feels objectively worse. The pressure is louder: we’re at the end of the year, you’ve got to get these things done, people are going into reflection mode, tax season is coming, there’s comparison setting in, and expectations build. Do you have this done? Do you have that?

Overwhelm Is Not the Place to Fix Your Books

If you have a bookkeeping software, maybe you’ve avoided that step and are using an Excel spreadsheet. Opening your bookkeeping software can feel like a threat. It’s not just a not-a-big-deal task—it can feel overwhelming.

Before we go any farther today, I want you to know you’re not behind. You’re human. Your body and nervous system are protecting you.

Granted, it’s protecting you from what it thinks is a tiger—when really it’s a little kitty cat. But we’re going to work on all of that.

Your body is not sabotaging you. You haven’t failed, you haven’t messed anything up, and you’re definitely not alone in this. So many people deal with this—you are not alone if you just think, “I cannot figure this out. I don’t want to deal with it. Let me just avoid it until tax season comes.”

And then we’re YouTubing videos trying to figure this out.

But here’s the thing: that overwhelmed state is not where we make progress. So, instead of giving you a big task list or a generic rule, I want to offer you four grounded options that you can choose from.

Four Grounded Ways to Reconnect With Your Books

What feels in alignment for you today or right now? There’s no shame and, of course, as always, no pressure from me.

We need to—as I like to say—you’ve got this and I’ve got you. There’s no pressure here.

But before we dive into the four different options, if you’re listening and realizing, “I don’t want to do this anymore; I’d love support, but I also want to understand what I’m doing,” I’ve got two ways for you to get help from me right now.

I’m releasing a step-by-step bookkeeping course for QuickBooks Online. If you want to keep your books in-house, do it yourself but want it to make sense and feel calm, this pre-sale is the most affordable way to learn bookkeeping in a way that actually makes sense.

People who take other bookkeeping courses come to me because the way I explain it makes sense. If you want to understand how to do this yourself, this is the best way. I’ll walk with you step by step, and there will be live coaching calls within the initial launch so we can do it together.

If you really just don’t want to do this at all, you can fill out a simple interest form and we can explore together what it might look like for me to do your books directly. Whichever of those options feels most aligned for you, go for it. Links will be in the show notes.

Option 1: Open Your Accounting Software and Breathe

First: Login. Just log in to your accounting software; you don’t have to categorize or clean anything up. Just open it and take a deep breath.

It’s simple but powerful. In this moment, you remind your brain and tell your body, “I’m okay, I’m safe, I can handle this in small doses.” When you take action later, it will be easier. Challenge yourself: once a week, every couple days, open it up, take a deep breath, and then close it out.

Option 2: Categorize One Recent Month Only

Second: If you can open your software easily, set a goal to categorize 30 days. Scan the recent month. Not all of it or the whole backlog—just a 30-day catch-up.

Option 3: Review Your Profit & Loss Without Fixing

Third: Look at your P&L reports, your profit and loss statement. What is surprising on there? What’s probably not categorized correctly? How do you feel looking at your statement, year to date?

It’ll give you an option: cash versus accrual. For most, it’ll be cash, but see what looks different.

Option 4: Get Bookkeeping Support (DIY or Done-For-You)

Fourth: Get support. You were never meant to do this alone.

Why Getting Bookkeeping Support Matters

It’s not a competence issue. Bookkeeping is not rocket science. It’s a simple thing once you learn it, but it’s often not your zone of genius or the best use of your time.

Money is emotional; money is energetic. If you are working through your beliefs and identities around money to help you take action, bookkeeping for many just becomes an extra thing to tackle.

You’re running a business, serving your clients, managing your home, taking care of others, and yourself! Not being your own bookkeeper can be a powerful move, unless you genuinely love it.

It is an easy and, often, low-cost solution. That’s why I price my packages the way I do—to make it more attainable because I know the value.

If we can get you in the door and taken care of, this is one thing you’re not managing. This isn’t about weakness; it’s about staying in the CEO role you were called to.

A quick note: AI can’t really do bookkeeping well, yet. Even the AI within some software like QuickBooks can’t figure these things out perfectly. You still need the human aspect, so making time to do it yourself, or getting support directly, is very important.

Take One Small Step – Not Perfect Action

Putting off your own bookkeeping isn’t going to work long term. Yes, we’re taking a small step now, but you’ll need to continue to move forward to improve.

This isn’t a long-term solution, but it’s the right-now solution to stop compounding the overwhelm. Then, let’s make it better.

If you’re ready to not do this alone anymore, you have two options: Bookkeeping Simplified (DIY course) or having me support you directly.

Bookkeeping Simplified is for you if you’re tired of YouTube or Google and want to actually understand what you’re doing—no jargon, no overwhelm. You’ll understand not just what to do, but why, so you’ll have confidence.

That confidence is game-changing.

Second path: Let me support you directly. If you want to stay in your own zone of genius or are just done with doing this yourself, start with the simple form (linked below). Then we can have a conversation about what working together might look like, but always start low-barrier.

Take One Small Step – Not Perfect Action

Pick one of these four options. You can pick multiple if you want, but pick at least one.

If it feels like too much, fill out the form and let me support your bookkeeping. Let’s get you on the right path together. When you figure this out, your clients come faster and your business grows because the frustration and fear tied up in your books is costing you cash flow.

I can guarantee it.

We don’t have to have perfect books to rest. Take one step. Let’s work on a relationship with money that’s not stressing out your nervous system.

Even if it’s as simple as opening your books, don’t underestimate the power of tiny steps. Rest is not the reward for finishing everything; it’s what makes finishing possible.

And that’s why we want to prioritize this today. Take a low lift, and take the rest you need.

If you’re ready for your bookkeeping to finally make sense—whether learning step-by-step inside Bookkeeping Simplified or letting me take this off your plate—both links are in the show notes.
