I was recently featured in CanvasRebel Magazine, where I shared the story behind my work — the pivot, the personal experiences that shaped it, and what I’ve come to understand about why so many entrepreneurs stay stuck even when they’re doing everything right. This post goes deeper into that conversation.

There’s a moment I’ve seen play out more times than I can count.

An entrepreneur builds a beautiful system. A detailed budget. A cash flow framework. Step-by-step financial tools designed for clarity and confidence. And on paper, they work.

But the spreadsheets don’t get opened. The numbers don’t get reviewed. The tools sit there, untouched — not because she doesn’t care, not because she isn’t capable, but because she doesn’t feel safe with money.

That was the moment that changed everything for me.

The Pivot That Changed My Work

Early in my career, I was focused almost entirely on strategy. I taught budgeting systems, cash flow frameworks, and structured financial tools. Clean, logical, effective.

And then I started noticing something that didn’t make sense: my clients weren’t using them consistently.

They would avoid opening their spreadsheets. Procrastinate on reviewing their numbers. Feel overwhelmed, ashamed, or emotionally activated the moment it came time to actually implement what I had given them.

That’s when I realized: the issue wasn’t the system.

It was the relationship.

So I pivoted.

Instead of only teaching people what to do with their money, I began incorporating mindset work, emotional regulation, identity work, and nervous system awareness into my coaching. We started addressing the stories they carried about money — the fear underneath avoidance, the internal pressure keeping them stuck.

That shift changed everything. For my clients and for my business.

People didn’t just become more organized. They became more consistent. More confident. More self-trusting. They stopped abandoning the tools and started actually living inside the systems they built.

What I learned — and now build my entire work around — is this: success isn’t just about the actions you take. It’s about who you’re being while you take them. When you change the relationship with money, the strategy finally sticks.

What Life Taught Me That Business Couldn’t

In the CanvasRebel feature, they asked me to share a defining “crazy” experience from my entrepreneurial journey. My answer wasn’t about a business failure or a launch that flopped.

It was about my son.

He was born with an undiagnosed birth defect — esophageal atresia — and had his first surgery less than 48 hours after birth. We spent 45 days in the NICU, and the years that followed included therapy, specialists, and ongoing care. He’s doing beautifully now, healthy and thriving — but those early years were intense.

From the outside, I looked strong. Because I was strong. I was advocating, learning, handling logistics most people never expect to face.

But beneath that competence, something quieter was forming.

I had built my business specifically for flexibility — so I could be present for moments exactly like that. And I was. I didn’t miss the hospital days or the appointments or the therapies.

What I didn’t see was the belief quietly settling in underneath all of it: If you were more successful financially, this would feel safer. If you had hit your income goals, you’d be a better provider. A better mother.

It took me nearly three years and working with a coach to uncover that belief. To realize I had equated my worth — and my family’s safety — with revenue. Even though the entire reason I built my business was to protect what mattered most.

Years later, when my first husband was hospitalized and I was suddenly facing six figures of medical debt, those beliefs were confronted again. And I had to look directly at how much false narrative and shame our culture places around money — specifically around debt.

Those experiences were heavy. Formative. Deeply personal.

But they’re also what shaped my work. They’re why I care more about emotional safety than hustle. Why I teach steadiness over striving. Why financial coaching for entrepreneurs, in my world, is never just about the numbers.

What This Means for You

If you’ve been trying to fix your finances with strategy after strategy — a new budgeting app, a course, a spreadsheet system — and nothing is sticking, this is worth sitting with.

It’s not that the strategies are wrong.

It’s that strategy alone can’t do what nervous system safety does.

Your body is making decisions about money long before your brain gets involved. And until you address those patterns — the fear, the shame, the old stories — the tools will keep collecting dust.

This isn’t a character flaw. It’s not a discipline problem. It’s not proof that you’re bad with money.

It’s a pattern. And patterns can change.

The work I do blends practical financial systems — bookkeeping, cash flow, budgeting, tax readiness — with the emotional and mindset work that makes those systems actually usable. Because clarity without safety is just more information you can’t act on.

Your Next Step

If any of this is resonating — if you’ve tried the strategies and they keep not sticking — the Breaking the Money Cycle private podcast is where I’d send you first.

It’s six honest conversations that take you from “why isn’t this working” to finally seeing the whole picture. Not a course. Not a webinar. Just the truth about the cycle you’re in and what actually breaks it.
