Money Saving Tips
Now I’m sure that if you are anything like the average American reading this then you think that you have heard it all before. All the tips and tricks for saving money and/or increasing your income and they haven’t worked for you.
Is that true though?
Majority of the population myself included, is great at making a plan!
• Tomorrow we will start doing this.
• Monday I’ll start working out.
• Next month we will cut that habit.
I recently heard a speaker explain why we do this and it’s so comfortable for us to fall into this habit. When we say we will do it tomorrow we feel good about it because we are still committing to getting this done but it doesn’t put the pressure on of actually completing the task now.
So, first off let’s implement what you are reading, TODAY!
It’s amazing how much of a difference this will make in your life when you apply this simple technique in other areas of your life but that’s a whole other topic that we’ll save for another day
Money Saving Tip #1 – Track Everything
This sounds simple enough, right? It can be a lot more difficult than it sounds though. Especially with the convenience of a debit or credit card we just swipe and are on our way.
We think we know how much is spent each month on various categories groceries, eating out, vending machine/gas station purchases; however, once we see actual numbers most people are pretty shocked.
I would also challenge you to figure out what percentage of your income goes to housing, utilities, groceries, eating out, etc. Sometimes looking at the numbers a different way works better for people.
Oh, this might be a shock to some but your cable bill is not part of your utilities! It should be classified under entertainment (that’s what it is designed to do after all). I also would include Redbox rentals and Netflix in that category as well.
YOUR ACTION STEP FOR TODAY is to pull up your bank statements (all of the credit and debit accounts you have) and start writing down and categorizing for the past 30 days. However, make sure you continue this habit for the next 30 days and beyond!
You don’t know what you don’t know so you can’t make adjustments till you find the leaks!
