How To Start Increasing Your Value In The Workplace Today
Now you might be saying why would I want to increase my value in the workplace?
The answer is simple! Increase your value and you’ll increase your income
I’m sure someone is already doubting that this will work but I would challenge you to try it. This is a long-term game though, you won’t necessarily see results this week or this month. Six months to a year down the road though you can be in an entirely different place.
Here are my 4 tips to increasing your value in the workplace today
Tip #1 to Increasing Your Value in the Workplace – Smile ????
Smiling sounds so simple yet it makes a huge difference! It is hard to be in a bad mood when you are smiling AND others around you are affected by the atmosphere as well. When you smile you make the room/environment a happier place. Employers want employees who are happy to be there and take pride in their work. Making an effort to smile is a simple step to proving that. Thinking about smiling might take some work, I’d encourage you to practice in the mirror even going down the road. It will become a habit the more you do it.
Tip #2 to Increasing Your Value in the Workplace – Be Engaged
Be engaged, what the heck does that mean? I mean when you are at work, be at work. Mentally be in the game, don’t be planning a birthday party or trying to figure out what you are going to be doing this weekend. When I was working as a sales representative I didn’t have a ton of extra hours to put in to try and increase my sales but what I could do was make the most of what time I did have (my 40 hours). If you are focused on your goals or tasks at hand you will get more accomplished in less time, creating a bigger value for your company!
Tip #3 to Increasing Your Value in the Workplace- Meet Expectations
In order to meet what expectations you have at work, you first need to find out what those expectations are. Set a meeting up with your manager so that you know exactly what is expected of you. Make sure you work to meet those expectations, employers are looking for people who will fulfill their job, not those who want to do the bare minimum to get by.
Tip #4 to Increasing Your Value in the Workplace- Develop your soft skills
The number of overqualified employees lining up for jobs is getting almost too high to count. What will make you stand out to your employer is your soft skills. How you handle conflict resolution, people skills, listening skills, etc. This is super important even if you don’t deal with customers every day, interactions with other employees and management are affected. If you had the choice between someone that had a don’t care attitude someone that everyone couldn’t stand or someone that was always pleasant and genuinely listened to peers and higher-ups, the 2nd individual would be the obvious choice.
